Our Nurture Group has been diving into the world of sinister stories in their English studies. They’ve explored different language techniques to understand how writers create settings that can send a chill down your spine.
The group has read three gripping tales:
- A Fume of Sighs by Lucy Singh
- Three Times is a Sentence by Lois McIntyre
- The Darkness by Jonie Marx
Through these stories, they have been analysing what makes a story truly sinister, practising reading comprehension, and learning how to make predictions using quoted evidence. The students then applied their understanding by creating their own sinister stories.
As a fun and creative break from assessments and writing, the students also had the chance to design and craft their own sinister masks. They put great thought and effort into what features make a mask appear eerie, bringing their creative visions to life.
This hands-on learning experience is just one example of the engaging activities that help our students develop their skills while having fun in the process.
